Final Basement dig and prepping for blasting

Snow melted finally, and the digging continued.
Nice big pile of dirt in the front now from the basement

The snow makes a mess, but we kept moving forward.

Settling tank hole was also dug which is just to the North and below the house.  The Drain field will be on down the hill where it levels back out again towards the National Forest boundary.

Almost done and ready to blast the rock out!

Front yard again looking West

The all important facilites have arrived now too!

Snow Delays on the house...

This snow kept coming which put us out a few days on more digging and blasting.
Looking at the garage to be.

Top of the rocks above the house to the North West.  Perfect view of the divide from here.

Basement is getting deeper and bigger!

Another Snow storm...

This time of year, we just have this to deal with.  But, the snow sure makes things pretty.  Just have to shovel a little more on the land to keep things moving forward.  Now maybe you all can see why we like living here so much...

Excavation begins!

The Excavator arrived today and the digging begins!
Driveway starts to take shape plus we had a snow storm.

The garage will be directly in front of where I took the picture.  The stakes show the house corners.

Looking from the NW up on the rocks, you can see the basic out line of the house.  The excavator clears out all of the stumps and rocks first, then will start on the basement level.

Amy, Heli, and Luna checking out the basement hole.

View down from the rocks above the house.

Basement hole really taking shape here with new stakes put in for the Excavator.  Lots of rock below the dirt, so we will be blasting in a few days.

Amy is standing where the back deck will be.  Kitchen just to the left and garage to the left of that.

A new House in Nederland!

Well, here we are catching up finally on the web, for the family blog it has been a few years since we updated anything here.  We sold our place in Longmont almost 1.5 years ago now and have been trying to find a new house up in the mountains near the town of Nederland.  After patiently looking at houses for sale, we ended up finding 2 acres of land that back to National Forest and decided to build our own place.  We started with the process back in 2012 in May....finally closed on February 11th and started cutting trees February 12th, broke ground February 18th!

Here is the story...with pics and videos of the process as we have gone through it.  Thanks much to Matt McDonald at Review Development for helping us over 8 months design and finalize our house project and to Jeff Fruth at Fruth Construction for taking the project on and working with us each day.  This is a huge project, but well worth the final product and wait.  Enjoy!  John, Amy and Madeline.
Here Jeff and Amy are looking over the staked area for the house and trees we have to cut down.  Even after you mark a few, there are always more angles, and other items you start to think about.

Looking over the house site--hard to believe in 6 to eight months there will be our house here! Lots of nice Douglas Firs on the property and a few large Ponderosa, plus some small Aspens.  Plenty of nice rock too all over.  Here in the distance, Madeline is assisted by Grandma in putting a log in the Sawyers truck.  She wanted to help out after she saw them loading up all of the logs.
