Amy, Maddie and I went up early Saturday to visit the site sans any other folks. It is a nice time to have it to ourselves, review the plans, walk though, talk about the design, doors, etc. We also pick up trash, nails, and what ever else catches our eyes. There was tons of snow still on the roof and I wanted to get the roof cleared as much as possible to dry up the dripping/puddles forming inside. I had to get a bit creative with the tools...
Picking up nails--the beach sand buckets work great!
Vie from the top of the roof and Maddie/Amy below--with Longs/Meeker on the right side
The Continental divide behind me to the West.
Sugar Loaf Mountain to the North East
James Peak to the South West
Viewing directly East--this was the way I walked up the roof. I snuck out on top of the stair well by the upstairs 2nd bath. Was able to add 2 more cleats to use as safety and then start removing the snow.
| Amy grabbed a few photos from below. |
| You can see some of the drifting I was dealing with |
After the snow removal--there was an 8 inch drift in this valley so it took a while.
Getting the North Side also..starting to dry quickly!
North East looking clear also--lots of snow again in this valley too due to the aspect.
Just about done!
Luna hanging out and Maddie picking up some cardboard.
I taped together three handles to make a long snow shovel so I could stay safe at the top of the roof and just push the snow off the bottom.
Worked well but was still hard work.
Whew! DONE! Going to be sore tomorrow for sure.
This is a peak at the large timbers for the front porch--pretty cool looking.
Roof without snow....well almost. I still have the Northwest aspect of the garage roof to scrape.
We also picked up all the screens from the windows and the handle/hardware bags and took them off site for safe keeping. Made sense to protect them from the rest of the construction process. All the sudden we realized it was 12:30! When, time for lunch and water, lots of water.
